Installation Network Options

At the top of the Augury continuous monitoring hierarchy are routers and access points. There are multiple options for creating an onsite network for the Nodes to use. Ideally it is best to have a dedicated network specifically for Augury IoT hardware but we will work with your IT teams to determine the best solution for your specific facility. Generally the solutions fall into three main categories:

Augury Cellular Wifi Network -  This network set up is contingent on the availability of cellular service throughout your facility. In this architecture routers are set up in the different areas throughout a building and produce a Wifi network using SIM cards that connect through local cellular providers. The range for these routers is generally around 100 feet (about 30 meters) although this can vary depending on interference within the building.

This range can be extended to approximately 300 feet (90 meters), again depending on interference, with the addition of an access point.

Site Wifi Network -  An onsite Wifi network using your own network hardware is the second, and often preferred, option. In this architecture the nodes connect to the internet using a network provided by routers and access points that are already existing or installed by the customer. Our technical support team will work with yours to ensure all of the necessary permissions and requirements are met by an existing network or a new, dedicated network for the Augury hardware. We take the necessary steps to ensure a safe and secure network is established. This method can help to decrease Augury hardware downtime by eliminating the need for, sometimes, inconsistent cellular service within your facilities.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE) -  The third option is a wired solution utilizing PoE. In this architecture customers are able to connect their own network infrastructure to the Augury nodes using ethernet cables (PoE 802.3af standard). In this manner customers can install hardware or take advantage of existing hardware in their own server racks to ensure a consistent and secure internet connection is provided for the Augury nodes. This type of installation eliminates the need for Augury routers and access points and eliminates reliance on potentially inconsistent cellular networks.
